“It may be a sudden gesture, in a sentence overheard, in an instant memory. London Is filled with such broken images, laughter which has been heard before, a street which is unknown and yet familiar” Peter Ackroyd London: The Biography
Ed Gray is a rising star in the south London art scene. The meteoric rise of his work is evident, with a constantly growing list of collectors and four sell out shows at GXgallery, this year’s show looks certain to have the same success. For this his fifth solo show at GXgallery, Gray has created a uniquely personal exhibition, delving deeply into the work of artists that have inspired him and confronting themes that the city presents – social integration, crime, manners and sexuality. Gray documents the erosion, decay and renewal – the seemingly ever – changing nature of the city and its inhabitants –His paintings take the viewer from Shepherd’s Bush to Mile End and tell a story of one place at one particular time. Gray’s vibrant paintings are strikingly confrontational, witty, satirical and an ongoing celebration of the actual people and places that make London unique. This celebration shows all of London’s brutal beauty through the eyes of one of its most individual and hardest working artists.
Gray will be giving an artist talk on June 29 from 11am onwards, this is a excellent opportunity to hear Gray talk about his current work, influences and success .This event is free, please contact the gallery to book a place. Time out of mind will be curated by Gxgallery and Ed Gray.
